He was a respected educator and pastor of several churches in West Ocala and will be sorely missed by his friends and family.

Dr. Eugene Finemore Broxton

Until the end of his 89-year-long life, the Rev. Eugene Finemore Broxton was an active man, advising young people about the need for an education and spreading the Christian gospel.

On Sunday, June 18, Broxton of Ocala died after a short illness. He was 89.

He served as pastor of several churches, including Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Ocala, New Shady Grove Baptist Church, New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and Ramah Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church.

He also held several civic posts, including assistant dean of the national Congress of Christian Education and was an instructor in the Florida General Baptist Association in the Congress of Christian Education. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity as well as a member of Phi Delta Kappa. He also was a member of the NAACP.

To cherish his passing, he leaves a devoted wife, Oretha Stadom-Broxton; daughter, Stacie R. McFatten (Leo) Ocala, FL.; adoptive son, Mythus Cedric Stadom (Vicki); and loving grandchildren, Adriana Williams, Nyla McFatten, Courtney Miles, Shayla Stadom, Cedric Stadom II; two great grandchildren; sister, Macie Hardee of Tampa, FL.; brother, Alphonso Broxton of Clearwater, FL.; three sister-in-laws, Sarah E. McMillon of Altamonte Springs FL, Barbara McMillon of Daytona Beach, FL.; Rosa L. Smith of Ruffin, SC; three brother-in-laws, Rev. John H. McMillon of Daytona Beach, FL,; Karie L. McMillon of Melbourne, FL.; Charles Wynder of Williamsburg, VA.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The wake will be held on

Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 6:00 PM at

Mt. Moriah Baptist Church

55 SW 3rd Avenue, Ocala, FL.

The funeral service will be held on

Friday, June 30, 2017 at 10 AM at

St. John Baptist Church

2251 NW 2nd Street, Ocala FL.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 'Youth Scholarship Fund' at

Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Ocala, FL.

who served actively as the faithful and dedicated Pastor of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, for fifty-seven (57) years, and was Pastor Emeritus for the past seven (7) years. Details are listed below:
